Recently I was introduced to the new, experimental, and hectic genre, Sigilkore. For someone new to the Soundcloud underworld, Sigilkore is a head-first dive into how insane music production and engineering truly gets the deeper you dig. This new genre combines the futuristic atmospheric vibe of Hyperpop with the bass-heavy and at times distorted mixing of Southern Trap. The mix of these 2 sounds creates an entirely new, at times Demonic, take on Hyperpop. The name of the genre itself originally derived from the Latin term Sigil meaning “an inscribed or painted symbol considered to have magical power.” and even by the trailblazers of the genre itself it's even described as “The devil's music”.

XXLUR𖤐XXELLA-XXMILE

The forefront of this new genre is lead by artists such as axxturel, majin blxxdy, & slur. From an outsider's glance, these artists all seem to share the same niche but ever-growing fanbase. As this scene is very new it is being redefined every day with new reoccurring themes throughout, such as Demonic cover art (as seen on the left), Religious symbols, and in many cases biblical artist names. Although this genre is a derivative of Hyperpop, the dark nature of this genre sets it apart from its light-hearted predecessor.

Now that Sigilkore has been explained enough, I would like to introduce one of my favorite underground artists from this new wave of music, Rachyl (previously known as Syve). As a listener of classic experimental acts such as Deathgrips and JPEGmafia, I didn't go into this artist expecting to hear something completely new, but I was happily surprised. The distorted base mixed with the unexpected vocal panning and chops creates an absolutely insane and intense audio environment for the listener. In the case of Rachyl, I was first introduced to her music with the track high-energy track “Friendly”. which is better explained by just showing it to you.

Rachyl 2021

Rachyl, the 15-year-old female artist was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Starting her music career originally at the age of 13, Rachyl is no stranger to creating new and outrageous sounds. Originally, drawing inspiration from artists like Playboi Carti the artist evolved and later found inspiration from newer acts such as Osquinn, Sybyr, and the fellow Sigilkore artist axxturel. The new combination of sounds and inspirations Rachyl creates is found directly in the vocal effects and engineering behind them. Rachyl sets herself apart from other Sigilkore artists with definite Pluggnb-inspired flows and Hyperpop vocals chops, mixed with atmospheric layered vocal panning similar to that of 8D audio remixes.

Today, I come to you with Rachyl newest release “I don't wanna be here”. This track was the result of a personal mental break for the artist to draw new ideas and inspiration for her music. This track includes catchy alienated vocals with heavy pitch shifting and chaotic reverb. I feel as if “I don’t wanna be here” truly represents Sigilkore as a genre due to its degenerative and demonic audio presence. As the song progresses the listener can hear and almost feel the chaos rising throughout the track with not only its mix but pitch/speed as well. Currently, Rachyl only has 9 public songs on her Soundcloud profile but that is all that is needed to show a new listener what Sigilkore is and stands for.

Rachyl — “i don't wanna be here”

As it stands Sigilkore and artist Rachyl both seem to have prosperous futures ahead of them. As for plans, Rachyl mentioned a collaboration tape between her and fellow n0cturnals member, Nervvy. Be sure to stream Rachyl new track “I don't wanna be here” below and follow her Instagram for future updates @1rachyl. Finally, by request, Rachyl asked for a few shoutouts to be mentioned in this article those being

Shoutout Jacob for getting me in n0cturnals, shoutout Nervy, shoutout Kimmy, shoutout Kuix, and shoutout Queens Veil. — Rachyl 2021
